Abstract
This study aims to explore epic theatre in Bertolt Brecht’s work through the play Mother Courage and Her Children, focusing on how it breaks traditional emotional identification among the audience and builds critical awareness of themes such as war and capitalism. The research problem centers on understanding the techniques Brecht uses in epic theatre to dismantle naive empathy and stimulate rational, critical thinking The study recommends adopting epic theatre techniques in contemporary theatre to enhance social and political critique and encourage audiences to engage in conscious reflection rather than mere emotional attraction, making theatre an effective means of social change.
