Verbal homonym and semantic plurality in Arab and Western cultures

Abstract

The verbal commonality is one of the most important semantic issues that semantics tries to uncover the causes of its emergence and the methods of its treatment. This phenomenon was the focus of ancient Arab scholars regardless of their different orientations, whether philosophical, fundamentalist, or rhetorical. In this context, the scholars were divided into two groups one of which acknowledged the existence of this phenomenon in Arabic and the other denied it.

   Faced with this proposition, this study seeks to stop at the term joint verbal of ancient scholars and modernists, Arabs and the west alike, with identifying the differences that are used in treating the phenomenon in the semantic plurality.
