Abstract

Identity is an essential concept in human thought, given its need for integration with the community. But the most important thing is that the narrative identity which determines the continuity of the subject through his narration, while the understanding of oneself, is only made through signs, symbols within the narration. This is what appears clearly in the Algerian novel since the twenties, in which the questioning of identity has been dealt with the problematic of the identity to the test of the historical and political contexts, where it passed from unilateral vision to multiple visions. And therefore, narrative writing in the novelist's project may be considered a historical necessity, and a metaphysical and ontological need, or a counter-scripture to question official history. Keywords: identity; narrative identity; Algerian novel; Memory; the story .
